The A Level examinations kicked off today in the Maldives, with a total of 4,293 students participating across 48 centers nationwide. This year’s candidates include 1,663 students sitting for the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC), 3,842 for Edexcel A Levels, and 443 for Cambridge A Levels.
According to the Ministry of Education, the Cambridge A Level exams will be conducted from September 30 to October 14, while Edexcel A Level exams are scheduled to begin on October 8 and run until October 31.
Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has raised concerns regarding the pass rates for A Level students, which have yet to exceed 50 percent. He emphasized that achieving the desired educational outcomes is contingent upon improving the quality of teaching, highlighting the need for an additional 2,700 teachers to effectively address the current challenges in the education sector.
