UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described the situation in Gaza as a "nightmare" entering its second year, during a somber address to the United Nations. Guterres painted a dire picture of the region, calling it a crisis of humanitarian, political, diplomatic, and moral dimensions.

"This has been a year of crises," Guterres said. "Humanitarian crisis. Political crisis. Diplomatic crisis. And a moral crisis. The nightmare in Gaza is now entering an atrocious, abominable second year." He urged immediate international action to alleviate the suffering of civilians caught in the conflict.

Gaza Residents Face Uncertainty as Focus Shifts to Lebanon

Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with civilians living in makeshift shelters and struggling to secure basic necessities, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Sarah Davies, an ICRC spokeswoman stationed in southern Gaza’s al-Mawasi, highlighted the ongoing hardships residents face despite a shift in Israel's military focus toward Lebanon.

“They’re still living here in tents. They still can’t return to their homes. They still don’t know whether their homes are standing," Davies said. "Every day, they struggle to find food and clean water, and there is fear every time new evacuation orders are issued."

Israeli Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon Leave Three Dead

In Lebanon, Israeli airstrikes on the southern town of Aitit have left three people dead, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency. The attack follows similar strikes in Saksakiyah, Sidon District, and Joya in the Tyre area. Local Civil Defence teams retrieved the bodies from Aitit, but information on casualties from the other strikes remains unavailable.

Hezbollah Leadership Shows Strength Despite Israeli Claims

Military analyst Elijah Magnier stated that Hezbollah’s deputy leader, Naim Qassem, appears to be taking a leadership role during the ongoing conflict. Despite Israeli claims that Hezbollah suffered a severe blow, Qassem’s recent public appearances project confidence and control.

"He is not saying ‘I am the new Secretary-General,’ but he is in command and control," Magnier said. "Hezbollah has absorbed the hit and is moving forward."

The situation in northern Gaza is growing increasingly desperate. Moath al-Kahlout, reporting from the Jabalia refugee camp, described a chaotic scene at Kamal Adwan Hospital, where casualties from Israeli bombings in Beit Lahiya are being treated. The Israeli army has ordered civilians to evacuate but is reportedly blocking the exit points, leaving thousands of people trapped.
