A-Level Education to Begin in Five Additional Islands This Academic Year

The Ministry of Education has announced the expansion of A-Level education to five additional islands starting from the upcoming academic year. This initiative aims to increase access to higher secondary education for students across the country.
According to the Ministry, the decision will be based on the number of students completing Grade 10 in each island and their interest in pursuing further studies. The move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to decentralize education and ensure equal opportunities for students in outer islands.
Speaking to state media, State Minister of Education Dr. Ahmed Mohamed emphasized that sustainability is a key consideration in this expansion. “If there are many students with good results who wish to stay on their island to study for higher secondary education, we are providing the opportunity to start A-Levels in additional schools this year, within certain criteria we currently follow,” he said.
Dr. Ahmed also noted that several island schools have shown impressive results in the recent O-Level examinations. As a result, the Ministry is actively working to identify schools where A-Level classes can be introduced, provided there is sufficient demand and capacity.
While the Ministry has not yet revealed the names of the selected schools, officials stated that the selection process is ongoing and will be based on academic performance and student interest.
This expansion marks a significant step toward improving educational access and reducing the need for students to relocate to pursue higher secondary education.
