The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced plans to deploy three additional dredgers in October to speed up ongoing land reclamation projects in the Male’ area. This move aims to fast-track the creation of new land for critical housing developments.

As part of the Presidential pledges addressing the nation’s housing challenges, HDC is actively working on land reclamation projects across Hulhumale’ Phase 3, Gulhifalhu, Thilafushi, and Uthuru Thilafalahu. To expedite these efforts, two 45,000-ton hopper dredgers and one 11,000-ton hopper dredger will begin operations this October.

HDC emphasized that they are collaborating closely with relevant stakeholders to anticipate and resolve potential challenges, ensuring continuous and efficient progress in the reclamation work.

Meanwhile, the China Harbor Engineering Company Private Limited officially commenced land reclamation yesterday as part of the Rasmale land reclamation and coastal protection project — the largest housing initiative under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration.

Rasmale aims to reclaim a total of 1,009 hectares from the Fushidhiggaru lagoon, with 129.60 hectares already completed, marking significant progress in tackling the housing shortage.
