QASIM: YAMEEN WILL STOP AT NOTHING TO HARM THOSE HE DISLIKES, EVEN FAMILY

Villa Group Chairman and Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim has accused former President Abdulla Yameen of being driven by personal grudges, warning that Yameen is willing to go to any length to harm those he dislikes — including close relatives.

Referring to Yameen's past actions, Qasim pointed out that the former president imprisoned his own half-brother, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, as well as other family members, for months without any proven crime. “If he could do that to his own blood, imagine what he could do to others,” Qasim wrote.

Qasim’s remarks come in response to recent public comments by Yameen, which he says falsely accused Villa Air of receiving unfair compensation over Kaadedhdhoo Airport. Qasim claims Yameen’s statements are rooted in long-standing jealousy towards both Villa Company and himself personally.

“This isn’t new. Yameen has been trying to damage my reputation and the work of Villa for years. He even reopened the Criminal Court in the middle of the night to pass an unconstitutional verdict while I was in the ICU,” Qasim said, also recalling that his son, Ibrahim Siyad Qasim, was jailed for five months without evidence under Yameen’s administration — only to be later acquitted.

Qasim contrasted this with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, stating he believes Muizzu would not resort to such illegal and personal attacks.

Despite everything, Qasim acknowledged that he once supported Yameen in the 2013 presidential election. He explained this support came not from trust, but from a request by former President Maumoon and other influential figures at a time when the nation faced political uncertainty.

“Even then, I knew who Yameen really was. But I acted for the good of the country,” he said.
