Flights have resumed at Fuvahmulah City Airport, following a swift and coordinated effort to resolve a technical issue that temporarily halted operations earlier this week.

The airport was briefly closed on Monday evening after a hose burst on the airport’s fire truck — a crucial piece of safety equipment required for flight operations. Speaking to Mendhuru TV, Fuvahmulah City Mayor Ismail Rafeeq explained that the closure was necessary to ensure the safety of all passengers and staff.

What followed was a prompt response that brought together local officials and national authorities. Member of Parliament Ibrahim Hussain shared that Maldives Airports Company acted quickly, arranging for a fire truck to be transported from Addu City to Fuvahmulah to restore operational readiness.

Thanks to these efforts, the airport is now fully functional, and services have returned to normal.

During the downtime, travelers scheduled to depart from Fuvahmulah were transported to Addu City by RTL ferry, with special arrangements made for their flights to continue through Gan Airport — a solution that reflected the community's determination to minimize inconvenience.

MP Ibrahim Hussain reassured residents that steps are being taken to strengthen airport operations and prevent similar issues in the future.

“We’re committed to ensuring this doesn’t happen again. The safety and reliability of our airport are top priorities,” he said.

The quick resolution and return to service have been welcomed by locals, highlighting the strength of coordination and care among the Fuvahmulah community and its partners.
