The National Drug Agency (NDA) has held discussions to enhance the services provided by the country's detox centers, particularly focusing on the Thinadhoo Detox Centre. The talks, held during the NDA's 9th board meeting, centered around setting service standards for detox facilities and licensing programs for facilitators.

In addition to this, the board has agreed to engage in further discussions with the Drug Court and the Correctional Services Corporation (CSC) to address critical issues within the drug treatment system. The government has significantly increased funding for these initiatives to improve the country's drug treatment programs and overall drug rehabilitation efforts.

Another key development in the government’s efforts to tackle crime and improve safety in local communities is the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between the Interior Ministry and eight island councils, including Thinadhoo City Council. The MoUs aim to identify crime reduction strategies, assess the security situation on the islands, and form committees that will collaborate with stakeholders to address local security concerns.

This initiative marks a significant step in allowing island communities to take an active role in crime reduction. While the initiative has begun in South Huvadhoo Atoll, the goal is to expand it to councils across the Maldives. Through these agreements, the councils will help implement services from various agencies under the Ministry of Home Affairs, working towards the President’s vision of bringing services closer to the people.

The expanded efforts reflect the government’s commitment to improving public health services and enhancing safety at the local level.
