Maldivian President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has met with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the official presidential residence in Islamabad, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

President Zardari and the First Lady welcomed President Muizzu and his wife during the official visit. The two leaders and their respective First Ladies also held separate meetings, with both sides expressing confidence that the engagements would contribute to strengthening ties between the Maldives and Pakistan.

President Muizzu expressed his gratitude to Pakistan's leadership for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and his delegation.

During the discussions, the leaders highlighted the longstanding historical and brotherly relations between the two countries. They explored opportunities to expand cooperation in key sectors, including trade, education, healthcare and training.

The two presidents also exchanged views on enhancing bilateral cooperation and collaboration at international forums.

President Zardari expressed confidence that the agreements signed during the visit would further strengthen relations between the two countries. He also described the visit as an important step towards revitalizing high-level bilateral engagement following a prolonged gap in such visits.

The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to deepening the longstanding friendship and expanding cooperation between the Maldives and Pakistan.
