Police Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed says fulfilling legal responsibilities and maintaining public safety are more important than the number of police officers stationed on an island.

Speaking at the official opening of the newly constructed police station in HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, the Commissioner emphasizes the importance of serving communities with care and cooperation while ensuring a safe environment for residents.

He commends President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration for prioritizing police infrastructure development, including the establishment of modern police stations on islands where police previously lacked dedicated facilities. He says the new station marks the beginning of a new chapter in delivering comprehensive police services from permanent facilities.

The Commissioner also credits the Kulhudhuffushi Council and local residents for their support and contributions, which helped complete the project swiftly.

Addressing concerns that operational priorities could affect other police services, Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed stresses that officers must not neglect any of their legally mandated responsibilities, even when dealing with specific operations.

He notes that Kulhudhuffushi generally records low crime levels but urges officers not to become complacent. He calls on police to remain vigilant, strengthen crime prevention efforts and work consistently to maintain public safety.

The Commissioner adds that police will consult local councils and residents when setting priorities and planning activities for the coming year, ensuring that services reflect the needs of the community.
