More than 190 households in Nolhivanfaru and kulhudhufushi have reported flooding amid heavy rainfall across the country, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said.
The council is assessing the situation, while the council, police, MNDF Fire and Rescue Services, and Maldives Red Crescent are working together to drain the floodwater.
In addition, more than 60 houses have been reported flooded in H.D. Several houses have been flooded, and livestock have been severely affected. However, no houses have been evacuated so far, the NDMA said.
Police and residents are working together to place sandbags in the village.
The National Meteorological Department (NMD) recorded 188.3 millimetres of rainfall over the past 24 hours, the highest recorded in the country. Hanimaadhoo recorded the second-highest rainfall, at 125.7 millimetres.
Heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the next 24 hours, with strong winds and rough seas also expected. Seafarers have been advised to exercise caution due to the weather conditions.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, authorities, emergency response teams and local communities are working together to manage the flooding and support affected households. With coordinated efforts underway and residents joining hands with response teams, efforts continue to minimise damage and ensure the safety and well-being of communities as the country braces for further rainfall.
