President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed confidence that the Maldives is entering a golden era of housing security through the major Rasmalé development project. He said the next two years would bring unprecedented opportunities for Maldivians to secure their own homes, marking a historic milestone in the country's housing sector.
The President made these remarks during the sixth episode of Nation Chat, a podcast series produced by Public Service Media (PSM).
Speaking on the programme, the President said the government's primary objective and one of its highest priorities was to ensure that every Maldivian citizen could secure a home of their own.
Addressing what he described as baseless claims circulating in society regarding the Rasmalé project, the President said that although there would always be people who opposed every initiative, there were also members of society capable of distinguishing between what was right and wrong.
He reiterated that there was no reason for the public to be concerned about the Rasmalé project, emphasising that it would bring benefits to the people.
The President also discussed the project in detail on The Pulse, a podcast produced by the President's Office. He said claims suggesting that the project's progress would create unrest and fear among the public were unfounded.
Citing his administration's efforts against Israel as an example of its commitment to standing firm on important issues, the President expressed confidence that the government would continue to pursue its objectives with determination.
Explaining how foreign investment in Rasmalé would strengthen the country's development prospects, the President said such investments would not diminish the housing opportunities available to Maldivians.
He also assured the public that all eligible applicants who met the requirements would be able to secure housing, regardless of the category under which they had applied through the Rasmalé project.
The President further noted that the government was implementing major development projects under innovative financing arrangements designed to avoid adding to the state's debt burden.
He explained that these projects were being undertaken through mechanisms such as future revenue streams and land-leasing arrangements involving investors. The President expressed confidence that these approaches would ensure that the benefits and returns generated by the projects would ultimately reach the people.
