The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has successfully recovered the cargo ship Akiris, which had gone missing 22 nautical miles east of M. Rathamundhoo. The vessel, which had lost engine power and went off the radar, was located after an extensive search operation.
The Akiris, en route from L. Gan to M. Atoll, went missing on Monday morning. The ship, carrying two Maldivians and five foreign nationals, lost GPS signal at 9:18 am yesterday, and there had been no further contact from the crew since then.
The MNDF Coast Guard deployed the interceptor craft Maafat to the area following the report of the missing vessel. Despite the distressing circumstances, all individuals on board are reported to be in good health. The Coast Guard is now working to safely evacuate the crew.
