New Delhi, November 11, 2024 – Vistara, the premium Indian airline born from a partnership between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines (SIA), took to the skies for the final time today, concluding a remarkable chapter in Indian aviation history. Vistara, which launched in 2015 with the aim of bringing a world-class flying experience to India, flew its last scheduled flight, marking the end of nearly a decade of operations.
The final flight, UK 852, departed from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport bound for Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The flight was emotional for both passengers and crew members, many of whom joined to pay tribute to Vistara’s legacy. In keeping with the occasion, Vistara’s final flight featured a special ceremony at the boarding gate, where dignitaries and loyal passengers gathered to celebrate the airline’s achievements and bid it farewell.
Over the years, Vistara set new benchmarks in customer experience, with services such as gourmet dining, premium in-flight entertainment, and cabin options like Premium Economy, which was a first for an Indian airline. Known for its commitment to safety and comfort, Vistara carved out a loyal customer base, winning numerous awards and accolades both domestically and internationally.
The decision to cease operations was part of a strategic realignment by Tata Sons, which, after acquiring Air India from the government in 2022, decided to integrate Vistara’s premium service model and aircraft fleet into Air India. This integration aims to strengthen Air India's competitive stance globally while honoring the legacy and premium standards that Vistara established.
In a farewell message, Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran stated, “Vistara has been a remarkable journey, not just for Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines but for India’s aviation sector as a whole. We are grateful to our employees, partners, and especially our passengers who made this journey memorable. The legacy of Vistara will live on as part of a new, revitalized Air India.”
The transition period will see a gradual integration of Vistara’s routes, employees, and aircraft into Air India, allowing the flagship airline to expand its network and enrich its offerings. Passengers loyal to Vistara can expect enhanced services on Air India flights, as the airline embraces Vistara’s premium touch.
As Vistara concludes its operations, its final flight was a tribute to its stellar legacy—one that will remain in the hearts of passengers and the Indian aviation industry for years to come.
