Mohamed Latheef, President of the Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM), has been elected as the Vice President of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) representing the Central Zone Association (CAVA). Latheef, who also serves as the President of CAVA, was also appointed as a substitute member of the AVC Administrative Board.
In his response to the election, Latheef emphasized that this achievement is a significant milestone for the Maldives and its volleyball community, rather than a personal triumph.
The AVC Congress, held in Bangkok, Thailand, saw Ramon Suzara of the Philippines Volleyball Federation elected as the President of the AVC. Suzara won with 48 votes, including proxies, while his opponent, Ali Ghanim Al-Kuwari of Qatar Volleyball, received 15 votes. Rita Subowo of Indonesia, the outgoing AVC President, was honored as Honorary President.
In his inaugural address, President Suzara called for unity among AVC members to realize the organization’s vision. Craig Carracher of Australia has been appointed as the Senior Vice President, and Latheef will serve as the Executive Vice President. Suzara’s term as president will run until 2028.
