India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, has expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in the Middle East and Ukraine, calling for immediate ceasefires and a return to diplomatic dialogues.

Israel-Hamas Conflict:

In a statement addressing the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, Dr. Jaishankar condemned terrorism and the taking of hostages, stressing that large-scale civilian casualties resulting from military operations are unacceptable. He reiterated India's unwavering support for a two-state solution, a key component in ensuring lasting peace in the region.

"India unequivocally condemns terrorism and hostage-taking. It also regards large-scale civilian casualties in military operations to be unacceptable," Dr. Jaishankar remarked. He further emphasized India's humanitarian contributions to the conflict, both directly and through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

India's diplomatic engagement has been pivotal in promoting peace. Dr. Jaishankar revealed that New Delhi has been in regular contact with both Israel and Iran to encourage dialogue and restraint. He also highlighted India's commitment to peacekeeping, with over 900 Indian personnel currently serving in Lebanon as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Ukraine-Russia War:

Turning to the Ukraine-Russia conflict, Dr. Jaishankar called for an urgent return to dialogue and diplomacy, acknowledging that modern disputes cannot be resolved on the battlefield. "What is clear is that no solution is going to emerge from the battlefield. There must be a return to dialogue and diplomacy; the sooner, the better," he stated.

India has consistently maintained a neutral stance in the Ukraine crisis while advocating for peaceful negotiations. Dr. Jaishankar highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomatic efforts, including visits to both Moscow and Kyiv, underscoring India’s willingness to assist in fostering common ground between the warring nations.

India's commitment to peace and diplomacy remains steadfast as it continues to play an active role in global efforts to resolve conflicts through dialogue and cooperation.
