The disappearance of 43-year-old Thasleem Mohammed has prompted an ongoing criminal investigation by local authorities. Mohammed, an electrician employed by the Male' City Council, was reported missing after traveling to a sandbank near Huvanfenfushi with friends on Thursday, August 29.

According to the police, Thasleem was last seen between 10 and 11 am on the day of his disappearance. Despite a family party being held at the same location, which included approximately 25 attendees, there were no eyewitnesses to Mohammed's departure or any indication of what might have happened to him. The alarm was raised around 1 pm when Thasleem was reported missing.

Authorities have conducted extensive search efforts, including maritime searches led by the police and supported by the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF). So far, the MNDF has performed snorkeling operations over an area of 5,000 square feet and underwater dives covering 3,000 square feet near Finolhu, but there has been no sign of Thasleem.

Questions are being raised about the absence of any trace of Thasleem despite the extensive search. Factors such as underwater currents, terrain, or marine life could have complicated the search efforts. Additionally, the possibility of foul play or a medical emergency is being considered, but there is currently no concrete evidence to suggest these scenarios.

The delay in reporting Thasleem’s disappearance, which was noted to be approximately three hours after he was last seen, is also under scrutiny. Authorities are investigating whether this delay could be attributed to a period of time when Thasleem was alone or if there were other factors at play.

In the search for clues, the police are looking into whether surveillance cameras on nearby islands, boats, or facilities might have captured relevant footage. They are also inquiring about any unusual activities or sightings reported in the area on the day of the disappearance.

Thasleem's work on the sandbank involved electrical tasks, but the details of whether these tasks were completed or what he did afterward remain unclear. Investigators are also considering whether Thasleem’s disappearance could be linked to any personal disputes or threats he might have faced prior to the incident.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information. If anyone traveled to Finolhu on August 29 or 30 and has relevant information, they are urged to contact the Himmafushi Police Station at 9794639.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover the circumstances surrounding Thasleem Mohammed’s disappearance.
