Aasandha Company Limited, the Maldives' national health insurance service, has signed agreements with three renowned hospitals in Dubai and Bangkok to expand its coverage. The new partnerships, which include Burjeel Medical City (BMC) in Dubai, and World Medical Hospital and Bangkok Hospital in Thailand, will allow Maldivian patients to receive treatment at these international facilities starting 15th January 2025.

The agreements were signed by Aasandha Managing Director Aminath Zeeniya, with representatives from the three hospitals in attendance. This expansion follows President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's announcement in January 2024, after his visit to China, that the government would work to arrange medical coverage in Dubai and Thailand as part of Aasandha's benefits.

As part of the initiative, the government will also cover accommodation expenses for patients traveling to these countries for treatment, ensuring a more comprehensive and affordable healthcare experience.

Aasandha currently covers treatment at 57 foreign hospitals, primarily in India and Sri Lanka, but the addition of Dubai and Bangkok hospitals significantly broadens the range of options for Maldivian patients.
