34-Year-Old Flight Attendant Becomes Oldest Miss France Winner

Angelique Angarni-Filopon, a 34-year-old flight attendant from Martinique, made history on Saturday by becoming the oldest contestant to win the Miss France pageant. Her victory was made possible by a recent rule change allowing women over the age of 24 to compete, as well as those who are married or mothers.
Angarni-Filopon, who represented the French Caribbean island of Martinique, delivered an emotional speech upon winning. "In 2011, a 20-year-old young woman finished first runner-up in the Miss Martinique competition. Today, at 34, that same young woman stands before you to once again represent Martinique, its diaspora, and all the women who were once told it was too late," she said during the live broadcast on TF1.
The competition featured 30 contestants, including professionals such as doctors and dentists, who showcased their talent and grace in swimsuits, regional costumes, and evening gowns. The final also included performances to a mix of music genres, ranging from salsa to Mozart.
As the winner, Angarni-Filopon will receive a year-long salary from the Miss France organization, a Paris apartment, and a variety of gifts from sponsors.
Her historic win comes amid significant changes in the world of beauty pageants. Just days earlier, the Miss Netherlands pageant announced it would end after 35 years. Organizers stated they were "changing with the times" and shifting focus to a platform that highlights stories of successful women and tackles issues like unrealistic beauty standards.
Angarni-Filopon's victory symbolizes a broader move toward inclusivity and empowerment, challenging traditional notions of beauty and celebrating the achievements of women from all walks of life.
