Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kuwait, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 43 years, has marked a new chapter in India-Kuwait ties. The historic visit saw high-level discussions, prestigious honors, and significant engagements with the Indian diaspora.

Warm Reception and Prestigious Honor

Upon his arrival on December 21, PM Modi was warmly received by Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister, Fahad Yusuf Al-Sabah, along with other senior officials. He was later conferred the "Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer," Kuwait’s highest civilian award, by the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Accepting the award, PM Modi dedicated it to the 1.4 billion people of India.

Strengthening Strategic Partnerships

During his meeting with the Amir and Kuwaiti Prime Minister Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, PM Modi emphasized the historical and friendly ties between the two nations. Both leaders agreed to elevate their relationship to a strategic partnership. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, defense, technology, education, and culture.

A roadmap for deepening economic collaboration was laid out, supported by the establishment of new joint working groups under a recently signed joint commission for cooperation.

Engaging the Indian Community

The Prime Minister's visit highlighted the importance of the Indian diaspora in Kuwait. During his stay, PM Modi interacted with 1,500 Indian workers at a labor camp in Mina Abdullah, emphasizing the government’s commitment to their welfare. He also addressed over 4,500 Indian nationals at the "Hala Modi" event, where he praised their contributions to Kuwait’s development and their role in strengthening India-Kuwait relations.

Other Notable Engagements

PM Modi was the Guest of Honor at the opening ceremony of the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup in Kuwait, further underscoring the significance of the visit. The Amir and Crown Prince of Kuwait joined him at the event, symbolizing the strong partnership between the two nations.
