In a significant diplomatic statement, Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel reaffirmed the strong ties between India and the Maldives, emphasizing that "India's security is our security." This comment came during an exclusive interview with WION's Sidhant Sibal, where Khaleel highlighted the growing partnership between the two nations.

Speaking about the importance of regional stability, Khaleel said, "We are committed to the stability of the Indian Ocean, specifically to the security of the Indian Ocean, which will ensure the security for the nations across the Indian Ocean." He further emphasized that the security of India is closely linked with the security of the Maldives, reflecting the deepening bilateral relationship.

The Foreign Minister’s remarks come amid heightened diplomatic engagement between the two countries, with Maldivian President Muizzu making two high-level visits to India in 2024. These visits underscore the shared interest in enhancing cooperation, particularly in the areas of security, trade, and regional peace.

India and the Maldives have long shared a close relationship, with a focus on maintaining peace and stability in the Indian Ocean. The region, known for its strategic maritime routes, is vital to global trade and security, and both countries recognize the need for cooperation to address emerging challenges and threats.

As the two nations continue to strengthen their bond, Khaleel’s comments serve as a reminder of the growing collaboration and mutual understanding between India and the Maldives in ensuring a secure and prosperous future for the Indian Ocean region.
