Taxi Drivers Trained to Handle Road Accidents and Issues

Hulhumale, Maldives – A comprehensive training program aimed at equipping taxi drivers with the knowledge and skills to resolve road accidents and other traffic-related issues has commenced today. The program, organized by Road Safety Awareness and Prevention, is part of a series of refresher courses designed to enhance the professionalism and preparedness of taxi drivers in the Maldives.
The opening ceremony was attended by senior police officials, including Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Daud, Head of Hulhumale Police Command, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Asim Abdullah, Head of Male' Police. Chief Superintendent of Police Hussain Sameer, Head of Traffic Police and Road Management, also graced the event alongside officials from various departments.
Program Highlights
The four-day program, running from January 12 to 15, will provide 309 participating drivers with essential information on land transportation laws and regulations. Key topics include:
- The role of taxi drivers in resolving road accidents and other traffic-related issues.
- Proper conduct and procedures for drivers during emergencies or challenging situations on the road.
The training is designed to benefit both newcomers to the taxi service and experienced drivers, ensuring they are well-versed in legal requirements and best practices for road safety.
Commitment to Road Safety
Speaking at the ceremony, officials emphasized the importance of such programs in promoting safer roads and improving the quality of taxi services. "Taxi drivers play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers and other road users. This program will empower them to handle accidents and other issues effectively," said Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Daud.
The initiative reflects the government's ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and professional standards within the transportation sector.
