Male, Maldives – A 32-year-old man has been arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs into the Maldives using the FedEx courier service. The suspect, identified as Ali Ameen of H. Kafuruthoshige, Male', was apprehended on January 7th during a joint operation by Maldives Customs Service and the Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement units.

The arrest followed the interception of a suspicious package by Maldives Customs, which was later handed over to the police for further investigation. During a controlled delivery operation, authorities arrested Ameen and discovered a rubber packet containing substances believed to be drugs. The provisional weight of the seized substances is 213 grams.

Court Orders Remand

Ali Ameen was presented to the court for a remand hearing, where he was ordered to be held in custody for seven days as the investigation continues.
