New 100 Rufiyaa Note to Launch This Month
14 January 2025 - 07:06
The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has announced the release of a new 100 Rufiyaa note, set to enter circulation on the 19th of this month. The note will feature the signature of former MMA Governor Ali Hashim and include the Rufiyaa symbol on both sides.
Key Features
This marks the first time the Rufiyaa symbol, introduced on July 16, 2022, will appear on a Maldivian banknote. The new note will replace the current "Ran Diha Faheh" (Golden Ninety-Five) polymer series, which was introduced in 2016.
Significance
The inclusion of the Rufiyaa symbol highlights the nation’s commitment to modernizing its currency while preserving its cultural identity. The MMA aims to ensure a smooth transition for businesses and the public as the new note enters circulation.
