This pervasive issue contributes to approximately 7 million premature deaths annually and incurs a staggering $5.11 trillion in welfare losses each year. The Forum's latest report underscores the imperative for businesses to take meaningful action against air pollution and outlines five key strategies for immediate impact.

1. Establish the Business Case for Clean Air

The World Economic Forum emphasizes the compelling financial and reputational incentives for businesses to invest in clean air. Air pollution’s economic toll, including lost labor income and diminished productivity, amounts to around $100 billion annually due to sick leaves. Companies that incorporate clean air initiatives into their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) frameworks stand to benefit from increased consumer trust and loyalty. With 64% of consumers prioritizing sustainability in their purchasing decisions and 54% willing to pay a premium for sustainable products, the business case for clean air is stronger than ever.

2. Invest in Green Technologies

To address air pollution effectively, businesses must embrace and invest in green technologies. The Forum advocates for forward-thinking strategies such as optimizing energy use, adopting renewable energy sources, and implementing advanced environmental monitoring systems. While these technologies involve upfront costs, they are essential for reducing emissions and achieving long-term sustainability.

3. Enhance Brand Value and Collaborate with Suppliers

Prioritizing air quality not only benefits public health but also enhances brand value.
