President Muizzu Delivers Bold Promise: New Homes and Plots for Hirimaradhoo Residents in Hanimaadhoo
24 August 2025 - 13:05

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu brought a wave of excitement to the small community of HDh. Hirimaradhoo, announcing that every resident relocating to Hanimaadhoo will get a new plot and a fully built house within just a year and a half. He shared the news during a friendly meeting with Hirimaradhoo residents, the smallest island in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, while visiting South Thiladhunmathi Atoll on August 24, 2025.
The mood was upbeat as officials from the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure and the Housing Development Corporation Limited signed an agreement to kick off a housing project and set up municipal services for those moving to Hanimaadhoo. It’s a big step toward making the transition smooth and promising for everyone.
President Muizzu spoke directly to the residents, keeping things real. “We’re not just handing out plots—we’re building a house on every one of them,” he said with a smile. “If you’ve got an undeveloped plot, we’ll swap it for a new one and throw in some financial help to make it fair.” While the exact amount of compensation is still being worked out, he promised it’d be better than what’s currently offered.
“Nobody’s being forced to move,” he added, making it clear the plan comes from listening to what people want. “We’re hearing from other islands too—two or three have already asked to relocate.” He stressed that the government’s approach is about boosting the economy for Hirimaradhoo’s people, no matter what happens on their home island down the line.
With the move planned for a year and a half from now, President Muizzu assured everyone that the government’s got their back in the meantime. “We’ll work with you and make sure you’ve got what you need to keep moving forward,” he said, earning nods and smiles from the crowd.
The announcement has sparked a sense of hope and possibility for Hirimaradhoo’s residents, who now look forward to new homes and a fresh start in Hanimaadhoo. As the meeting wrapped up, the community buzzed with anticipation for what’s to come.
