Hussain Shameem has resigned from his position as Prosecutor General of the Maldives, stepping down voluntarily during a meeting convened to discuss his removal from office.

Shameem’s resignation comes in the wake of a complaint filed by PNC MP Mohammed Shahid of the Hulhudhoo constituency, which highlighted several issues regarding Shameem's conduct in office. The complaint prompted an investigation that ultimately led to the move to dismiss him.

Shameem, who was appointed to the role in 2019 with the support of 74 members in the then-parliament, was nearing the end of his term, which was set to expire in just three months. His resignation marks a significant turn of events, following the formal request for his removal.
