Abbas Shareef has officially taken office as the new Prosecutor General (PG) of the Maldives. His appointment was confirmed in a ceremony held today at the President's Office, where President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu presented him with his letter of appointment.

Shareef brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the Legal Secretary at the President's Office and as a Judge at the High Court. His nomination for the PG position was the sole recommendation made by President Muizzu to the parliament, following a competitive application process that included six candidates.

The Judiciary Committee of parliament reviewed Shareef's nomination and awarded him an impressive score of 93.91 percent during his interview. Following this evaluation, the Parliament voted unanimously in favor of his appointment yesterday.

As Prosecutor General, Shareef will play a critical role in the Maldives' legal system, overseeing prosecutions and ensuring justice within the framework of the law.
