Out-of-Session Meeting to Appoint New Prosecutor General
9 September 2024 - 09:11

The PNC Parliamentary Group has announced plans to hold an out-of-session meeting on Wednesday to discuss the appointment of a new Prosecutor General.
The application process for the role will conclude on May 11, 2024. Interested candidates must submit their applications, including necessary forms such as the affidavit, crime and debt record forms, and Election Commission clearance forms, to the President's Office between 08:30 and 12:00 from May 10 to 11.
The position of Prosecutor General became vacant after Justice Hussain Shameem was removed from the post by Parliament on May 22, following allegations against him. The PNC Parliamentary Group has stated that the out-of-session meeting can proceed once signatures from at least 31 lawmakers are secured.
Additionally, two sittings were scheduled during the last session of Parliament to address various matters, including the selection of the new Prosecutor General.
