Previously The Ministry of Fisheries announced on Wednesday that more than 50% of fishing vessels in the Maldives have been registered.
As part of this initiative, ministry teams have already visited 11 atolls across the country. The atolls covered so far include:
- Addu City

- Kaafu Atoll
- Baa Atoll
- Shaviyani Atoll
- HDh. Atoll
- Ha. Atoll
- Gdh. Atoll
- Ga. Atoll

This national registry, a key presidential pledge by President Mohamed Muizzu, aims to formalize the fishing industry, ensuring that fishermen are recognized by the state. The Ministry of Fisheries will maintain a detailed database of all fishing vessels, sailors, and crews.
The initiative is designed to make fishermen more aware of their rights and responsibilities while improving the overall structure of the industry. It is also expected to enhance the respectability and recognition of fishermen within the country, as they will be officially documented in a state-managed registry.
