A key aspect of the talks was the development of a framework to regulate the use of Thoothibovadilamas, a type of fishing equipment. The framework includes safe handling practices, such as secure storage and transportation, aimed at promoting sustainable fishing techniques and protecting the environment.

Minister Shiyam and Mayor Rafiq also explored strategies to further assist those involved in sports fishing, recognizing the potential of the activity as both a means of livelihood and a sustainable tourism attraction. The training is expected to empower local communities, ensuring that they are equipped with the best practices for efficient, responsible, and profitable fishing.

The collaboration between the Ministry of Fisheries and Fuvahmulah’s local authorities marks an important milestone in supporting the island’s fishing industry and promoting sustainable practices that can help preserve the Maldives’ rich marine biodiversity.
