In a recent meeting at the President's Office, the Bodukannelli Fishermen's Union (BKMU) expressed optimism about the future growth of the fishing industry, contingent upon the current government's commitment to its manifesto promises. The union addressed various challenges faced by the sector and outlined specific requests for government intervention.

During the meeting, BKMU representatives detailed several issues impacting the fishing industry, including difficulties in obtaining necessary hygiene documentation for boats, problems with tracking devices used to monitor fishing vessel locations, and the need for solutions to sell fish at a 'floor price.' The union also called for the provision of special buoys for large-scale fisheries and enhanced protection for fishing areas to increase revenue and profits from the industry.

The BKMU expressed appreciation for the government's proactive steps in promoting the fisheries sector. They commended the government's efforts to create a comprehensive list of fishermen and the cancellation of permissions allowing fishing without lane specifications.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assured the union that the government would exert full effort to address the key goals discussed in the meeting. The Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, along with other senior officials from the ministry, were also present, underscoring the administration's commitment to addressing the concerns of the fishing industry and supporting its growth.
