President Honors India's Independence Day, Emphasizes Growing Partnership

On the occasion of India's 78th Independence Day, President of the Maldives, Mohammed Muizzu, has sent warm wishes to President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the people of India. In his message, President Muizzu celebrated the enduring friendship between the Maldives and India, emphasizing the shared commitment to regional development and cooperation.
In his statement, President Muizzu reflected on the historic ties between the two nations and expressed confidence that their relationship would continue to grow stronger in the years ahead. Highlighting the significance of this day, he acknowledged India’s momentous achievement of independence from British colonial rule in 1947.
The close relationship between Maldives and India has been reinforced through various diplomatic engagements. Notably, President Muizzu’s visit to India in June this year underscored this bond, where he attended the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Modi and met with both Prime Minister Modi and President Murmu. During this visit, he also expressed his gratitude to the Government of India for its support to Maldives and reiterated his desire to fortify the long-standing friendship between the two countries.
As India celebrates its Independence Day today, marking a pivotal moment in its history, President Muizzu’s message serves as a testament to the strong diplomatic ties and mutual respect between the Maldives and India.
