Japanese and UK Ambassadors Present Credentials to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu

The newly appointed Ambassadors of Japan and the United Kingdom to the Maldives officially presented their credentials to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in a ceremony held this morning at the President’s Office.

Ambassador Ishigami Rumiko of Japan and Ambassador Nicholas David Law of the United Kingdom were warmly welcomed by the President, who extended his to both envoys on their new diplomatic postings.

Following the presentation, President Muizzu held separate meetings with each Ambassador to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in key sectors.

In his meeting with Ambassador Law, discussions focused on enhancing ties in higher education and tourism, as well as collaborative efforts on climate change adaptation. The Maldives and the UK established diplomatic relations on July 26, 1965.

During talks with Ambassador Ishigami, both parties explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in disaster management and renewable energy. President Muizzu also expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued support in the Maldives’ development. The Maldives and Japan established diplomatic relations on November 14, 1967.

The arrival of the new ambassadors marks a new chapter in diplomatic engagement, further strengthening partnerships between the Maldives and both nations.
