President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is calling on Pakistani investors to explore the Maldives’ growing investment opportunities, highlighting tourism, industry, construction, education, healthcare and food security as key sectors for cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking at the Pakistan Business Forum, President Muizzu says that despite its small population, the Maldives offers significant opportunities for investment, particularly in tourism and other emerging industries.
The President also reveals that discussions are underway to increase bilateral trade between the Maldives and Pakistan to more than 200 million US dollars within the next two years.
Highlighting Pakistan’s economic potential, President Muizzu says the two countries have complementary economies that can benefit from stronger commercial ties and expanded cooperation.
He also emphasizes that food security is not merely an economic concern but a matter of national security for the Maldives, given its geographical characteristics as an island nation and its dependence on uninterrupted supply chains.
In this regard, the President invites Pakistani investors to explore opportunities in modern food processing and agricultural technologies that address the challenges of climate change.
President Muizzu further stresses the importance of strengthening connectivity between the two countries to facilitate trade and investment. He encourages shipping, port and logistics companies in both nations to establish direct and commercially viable transport links.
The President also notes that the Maldives and Pakistan are marking 60 years of diplomatic relations, emphasizing that their longstanding partnership is built on mutual trust and confidence.
The renewed push for investment and trade reflects efforts by both countries to deepen economic cooperation and establish stronger commercial links in the years ahead.
