Mohamed Shakeel, the Managing Director of the Maldives Hajj Corporation, has issued a public warning about scam calls in which an individual is impersonating him and seeking money from unsuspecting individuals.
In a post on Social Media X, Shakeel revealed that he had received reports of a person named Abdulla Rasheed, from the residence "G. Last," who has been calling various people, pretending to be Shakeel, and soliciting large sums of money.
Shakeel urged the public to be cautious and refrain from answering any calls from this individual, stressing that he has already filed a formal complaint with the Maldives Police Service to investigate the matter.
The Maldives has seen an alarming rise in scam and fraud cases, particularly via social media platforms and phone calls, with many victims losing significant amounts of money. Authorities have warned citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
The Maldives Police Service has encouraged anyone who has fallen victim to such scams to contact their hotline at 3322111 or the emergency number 119. Additionally, individuals who encounter suspicious activities are urged to report them using these contact points.
