The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has announced an extension of licenses for food service providers and individuals until November 23, 2024. This extension applies to licenses issued prior to the implementation of the new Food Security Act.
In a recent notification, the MFDA stated that the extension affects food service providers registered with the authority or any other agency before the new legislation came into effect. The move aims to ensure continuity for businesses during the transition period.
Additionally, food service establishments, including hotels, cafes, and restaurants, that are seeking new licenses must now apply through the 'OneGov' platform. This centralized service is designed to streamline the application process for food service providers.
For the registration of food and drinking water manufacturing factories, as well as individuals preparing food at home for income, the MFDA has introduced the online portal 'Dhirithi.' This platform will facilitate the registration process, providing a convenient and efficient way for individuals and businesses to comply with the new regulations.
The extension and new registration processes are part of the MFDA’s efforts to adapt to the updated Food Security Act and improve regulatory oversight in the food service industry.
