The Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) scheduled for September 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. The meeting, which will be conducted online through the 'Fahi Portal,' is being held in response to a request from the Finance Ministry.
The focus of the meeting will be the election of new members to the board of directors. BML has stipulated that only stakeholders who were registered by September 10, 2024, will be permitted to attend the meeting. Those interested in participating must pre-register between 10:00 a.m. on August 29 and 10:00 a.m. on September 19. Only pre-registered participants will be granted access.
In a related development, BML temporarily suspended dollar transactions on its Rufiyaa card earlier this week. This decision, which affected dollar transactions, was later reversed following guidance from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA). As a result, customers can now make transactions up to $250 with their debit and credit cards. Previously, Maldivian expatriates had a $750 monthly limit for transactions.
This special general meeting is expected to be a significant event for stakeholders as it will determine the new leadership for the bank.
