President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that China’s experience can play an important role in achieving the Maldives’ vision.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the China-Maldives Investment Cooperation Forum, the President said that projects carried out with China’s assistance have brought many benefits to the people of the country.
The President said his vision of making the Maldives a developed country by 2040 can only be achieved by strengthening ties with investors who will work together to diversify the economy.
“We need to further strengthen the relations between Maldives and China in a way that benefits the whole society. There is a lot of potential in the Chinese market for fish products and local products. We don't just want Maldivian businesses to participate in the international market. We want Maldivians to compete in this market and be successful,” the President said.
He also stated that the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries is an important milestone in their economic relations and has opened up opportunities for Maldivian businesses in the international market.
