A Chinese business delegation has announced plans to invest $1 billion to establish Pakistan's first fully integrated medical city in Karachi’s Dhabeji Economic Zone, located near the country’s financial hub. The announcement came during a meeting with former President Asif Ali Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and the Chinese Consul General on Thursday.

The proposed medical city will serve as a comprehensive pharmaceutical and medical ecosystem, strengthening the growing economic ties between China and Pakistan. This project is another example of China’s ongoing support for Pakistan, which includes significant investments such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), often referred to as the "lifeline" of Pakistan's economy.

The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), which oversees the Dhabeji Economic Zone, praised the Chinese investors’ pledge, highlighting the strategic importance of such collaborations. The meeting followed successful negotiations between the Sindh government and a Chinese investment consortium.

President Zardari emphasized the importance of strengthening trade and economic cooperation with China, assuring investors of the government’s full support. “We welcome Chinese investors and are determined to provide them with every possible assistance,” he said.

The Chinese delegation expressed interest in diversifying their investments in Pakistan, including sectors like agriculture, energy, transport, livestock, and manufacturing. To foster closer ties, the Sindh government has introduced Chinese language courses to bridge communication gaps and promote cultural exchange.

This significant investment marks a milestone in Pakistan-China relations and highlights the Dhabeji Economic Zone's potential as a hub for transformative development projects.
