Tax Appeal Tribunal Seeks New Members After High-Profile Dismissals

The Tax Appeal Tribunal is actively searching for candidates to fill four vacant positions following a major shakeup last Monday. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu dismissed four members of the tribunal, including its president and vice president, over serious allegations including severe misconduct, abuse of power, and illicit enrichment.

The decision to remove these members came after the parliament reviewed reports of alleged misconduct and found sufficient grounds for their dismissal. This move highlights the ongoing scrutiny of the tribunal's operations and its impact on the governance of the tax system.

In response to the vacancies, the President's Office announced a call for applications to fill the four posts. Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications between 09:00hrs and 12:00hrs on September 17th. Application forms are available both at the President's Office reception and on its official website.

Of the dismissed members, only Ismail Sajid remains on the tribunal. Sajid, who had previously flagged concerns about potential corruption within the tribunal, has been recognized for his role in bringing these issues to light. His retention is seen as a testament to his integrity and commitment to transparency.

The appointment of new members is expected to play a crucial role in restoring confidence in the Tax Appeal Tribunal and ensuring its effective and ethical functioning moving forward.
