Israel Breaches Lebanon Ceasefire 100 Times Amid Ongoing Strikes

Israel has violated its ceasefire with Lebanon approximately 100 times since the agreement was implemented last week, according to a United Nations peacekeeping source. Despite these breaches, the United States has called the ceasefire "successful," citing the inherent violations that often occur during such agreements.

The ceasefire, which went into effect on November 27, 2024, was intended to ease tensions between the two countries and stop hostilities. However, Israel has continued to carry out daily strikes in southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah positions. On Monday, Israeli airstrikes killed nine people and wounded several others in villages along the southern border. The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed the casualties, with five people killed in the village of Haris and four in Tallous.

Hezbollah has retaliated with attacks in the border region, accusing Israel of violating the terms of the ceasefire. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned Hezbollah's actions, accusing the militant group of a "serious violation" and promising a "forceful" response.

The ceasefire agreement outlines several terms, including Hezbollah’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon and the dismantling of its military infrastructure in the region. The Lebanese army, along with United Nations peacekeepers, is set to deploy in southern Lebanon as Israeli forces gradually withdraw over the next 60 days.

Despite the ongoing violations, the United States has supported the ceasefire, acknowledging that breaches are common in such agreements.

Since the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah escalated in October 2024, nearly 4,000 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon, with both sides continuing to exchange fire. The fragile ceasefire remains under intense scrutiny as international efforts to stabilize the region persist.
