Velana International Airport (VIA) has marked a significant achievement with the successful export of 1,000 tonnes of goods through its Sea-to-Air cargo service since its launch in May this year.

Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL), which operates VIA, announced that the service now includes 12 airlines, with Virgin Atlantic recently joining the list. Other major airlines providing the service include Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Aeroflot, and more.

The Sea-to-Air service enables goods arriving via Maldives Ports Limited to be quickly and securely exported by air to destinations worldwide.

Currently, the main exports being handled are garments brought into the Maldives from Bangladesh by sea.

MACL also highlighted that the service will expand further as more airlines participate, significantly boosting the airport's cargo services. The company emphasized that VIA’s role in the global logistics chain is contributing valuable economic benefits to the Maldives.
