Parliamentary Sitting on Wednesday Cancelled Due to Lack of Agenda Items

The Maldives Parliament has announced the cancellation of its scheduled sitting on Wednesday due to a lack of work to include on the agenda. Typically, Parliament holds sessions three days a week—Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday—starting at 9:00 AM.

When questioned about the absence of a scheduled agenda for Wednesday’s sitting, a parliamentary official confirmed that the next sitting will take place on Monday, December 9. However, no official explanation was provided regarding the cancellation.

A parliamentarian, speaking anonymously, explained that the cancellation was due to the absence of any legislative work to address, including bills.

Despite multiple inquiries, Parliament has not provided a public comment on the decision. Earlier, Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim had announced that a session would be held on Wednesday, but this was later reversed. The current parliamentary session, which was initially set to end on November 30, was extended until December 15 following a request by Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
