Aminath Sarahath Izzath, a former member of the Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom), and renowned presenter Shifza Mustafa have emerged as the top candidates for the two vacant seats on the commission. The recommendations follow interviews conducted by the Parliament’s Independent Institutions Committee.
Committee Report
According to the committee’s report, Sarahath scored 89%, securing the top position, while Shifza scored 79%, placing her second. The committee reviewed 12 applicants for the vacancies and finalized its recommendations after deliberations.
President’s Initial List
Earlier, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had submitted a list to Parliament, naming former member Mohamed Abdullah (Muhamma) and Ibrahim Muaz Ali (Muah), former spokesperson for the President’s Office during President Yameen’s term, as the top candidates. However, the committee’s evaluation has now placed Sarahath and Shifza at the forefront.
Next Steps
The final decision on the appointments will be made during the first session of the new parliamentary term on Thursday.
