Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Invites Applications for Two Vacant Seats Following Resignations
08 December 2024 - 08:32
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has announced the opening of applications for two vacant positions within the Commission. According to a notification issued by the President's Office, the application process will remain open until 12 noon on May 16.
The vacancies arose following the resignation of Vice President Abdul Salam and Member Toha Mohamed from the ACC. This leaves the commission with three members: President Adam Shamil, Shyama Mohamed, and Shazna Hashim. The resignations took place shortly after the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Independent Institutions decided to expel the two members, citing allegations of interference and corruption.
The resignations have raised concerns, as independent institutions like the ACC have often been under scrutiny for failing to perform their duties effectively. There have been recurring calls from various sectors for these institutions to operate without external interference and fulfill their mandates to ensure accountability and transparency in governance.
