Anti-Corruption Commission Investigates Allegations Against National Social Protection Agency

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into allegations involving the procurement of an office building for the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA). The probe comes amid claims on social media that a suspicious transaction was made in relation to the office building leased by the Agency.
According to the allegations, an MVR 34.8 million transaction concerning the procurement of the building was allegedly conducted with an individual other than the building’s owner. The claims suggest that an office building originally rented by MMTV for its operations was later sub-leased to NSPA, raising questions about the transparency of the deal.
In response to the allegations, NSPA issued a statement on Friday evening, categorically denying any wrongdoing. The Agency clarified that the procurement transaction was carried out in accordance with regulations between the Ministry of Finance and NSPA, without any involvement of a third party. They further emphasized that the details of the transaction were publicly accessible in a transparent manner.
NSPA also condemned what it described as attempts to undermine its integrity, stressing that it remains committed to its mandate of ensuring the social welfare of the public. The Agency confirmed that it had filed a formal complaint with the ACC to investigate the matter and ascertain the facts.
In a letter to the ACC, NSPA President Heena Waleed requested a thorough investigation into the allegations and urged the Commission to share its findings as soon as possible.
The ACC has confirmed that an investigation is underway but has not yet provided additional details.
