NSPA Identifies 63 New Beneficiaries for IVF Treatment Under Aasandha Scheme
03 November 2024 - 04:31
In a significant move toward supporting families facing infertility, the National Social Protection Agency (ANSPA) has announced the selection of 63 new beneficiaries for in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment under the Aasandha health insurance scheme. This latest announcement marks the second round of IVF support provided by Aasandha this year, highlighting ongoing government efforts to support reproductive health.
The second round of applications for IVF funding, which concluded on July 31, attracted a total of 215 applicants. After a careful evaluation process, ANSPA identified 63 individuals who will now receive financial assistance to begin or continue their IVF treatment.
ANSPA’s IVF funding initiative under the Aasandha scheme has been in place to address the growing demand for reproductive health assistance in the Maldives, where many couples face barriers in accessing fertility treatment due to high costs. Earlier in 2024, a total of 100 applicants had already received funding for IVF through the scheme. The addition of the latest beneficiaries raises the number of recipients and signifies a commitment to supporting more families in need.
In a statement, ANSPA shared that selected beneficiaries in the second round will be notified and given detailed instructions on proceeding with their treatment. Information regarding their next steps will be communicated by May 30, 2025, allowing them ample time to prepare and make arrangements.
The Aasandha scheme, which covers a wide range of medical treatments, has become a cornerstone of national healthcare in the Maldives, with recent expansions aimed at providing specialized support for fertility treatment. As infertility remains a sensitive yet important issue for many, the scheme’s IVF program has received positive feedback from the public.
ANSPA officials reaffirmed their commitment to improving access to healthcare and stated that they would continue to evaluate the program’s impact on the community.
