Male, Maldives – The National Meteorological Service, commonly known as the Met Office, has issued a warning that weather conditions across the Maldives are expected to worsen significantly starting tomorrow. This announcement comes as the country experiences mixed weather patterns, with some islands already feeling the effects of the monsoon.

Today’s Weather Overview

Today, the weather has been relatively calm in most parts of the country. The Met Office reported that while some southern atolls are experiencing monsoon-related conditions, the overall weather has been favorable. Winds in the southern atolls are blowing from the west and northwest, while other regions are experiencing winds from the east and southeast at speeds of 03 to 13 miles per hour. Sea conditions remain moderately calm, with wave heights ranging between 2 and 4 feet.

Over the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall was recorded in Sh. Funadhoo, with 24.9 millimeters of rain. Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi followed with 23.1 millimeters, and R. Ifuru received 10.0 millimeters of rain.

Impending Weather Deterioration

The Met Office has cautioned that the weather is expected to take a turn for the worse starting tomorrow. While specific details about the severity of the conditions were not immediately provided, the forecast suggests increased rainfall, stronger winds, and potentially rougher seas. Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated with the latest weather advisories and take necessary precautions.

Precautionary Measures

Authorities are urging the public, especially those in coastal and low-lying areas, to remain vigilant. Fishermen and sea travelers are advised to exercise caution and avoid venturing into the sea unless absolutely necessary. The Met Office has also recommended that residents secure loose objects and prepare for possible disruptions caused by heavy rain and strong winds.

Regional Impact

The southern atolls, which are already experiencing monsoon effects, may face more pronounced weather changes. However, the Met Office has emphasized that the entire country should be prepared for deteriorating conditions.

Stay Informed

The Met Office will continue to monitor the situation and provide regular updates. Residents are encouraged to follow official weather bulletins and heed any warnings issued by local authorities.

As the Maldives braces for worsening weather, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens and visitors.
