The Maldives Immigration has taken 17 foreigners into custody for staying and working illegally in the country. The arrests were made during a special raid operation conducted by the Immigration Task Force in the Hinamaage parking area, a location reportedly known for a high concentration of illegal foreign workers.
Operation Details
The raid was carried out based on information received by Immigration Watch. Authorities inspected foreigners gathering in the Hinamaage parking area, as well as nearby shops and cafes run by foreigners. During the inspections, it was discovered that many were working without valid visas, violating immigration regulations.
Ongoing Efforts
This operation is part of a broader initiative by Immigration, in collaboration with other relevant authorities, to address the growing issue of illegal foreign workers in the Maldives. A significant number of foreigners have been taken into custody during similar operations in recent weeks.
The Immigration Department has urged the public to report any information regarding illegal foreign workers to help curb the issue.
