As part of an ongoing effort to identify and take action against foreigners residing illegally in the Maldives, authorities inspected three locations in Hulhumale, leading to the arrest of an individual without a valid visa.
According to Maldives Immigration, the operation was conducted yesterday evening by a task force comprising the Ministry of Home Affairs, Maldives Immigration, and the Maldives Police Service. During the raid, three cafés and takeaways were inspected, resulting in the detention of a foreign worker found working without proper documentation.
Authorities continue to strengthen measures against individuals staying and conducting business in violation of Maldivian laws. So far, over 6,076 foreigners have been deported as part of this initiative, with no further opportunities granted to those violating immigration regulations.
To facilitate public reporting of illegal foreign residents, Immigration has introduced an online platform called "Immigration Watch." Over 1,297 cases have been submitted through this platform, with only 11 cases still under review.
Additionally, Operation Kurangi is underway to collect biometric data on foreign workers and establish a long-term solution to undocumented labor. To date, biometric information of 43,294 foreigners has been recorded.
This initiative aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's pledge to address the issue of illegal foreign residents. The Home Minister has reaffirmed that the comprehensive three-year plan to resolve this matter is set for completion by April 2027.
